A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US

Doggie Day Trips has been hiking with New York City dogs since 2007. There's really no better way for your four-legged friend to spend their day than on the beautiful hiking trails outside of the city. We also provide country getaways at our farm house upstate. Daily romps around the property are a given and no cages means more snuggles when it's time to head inside!

aboutus

Doggie Day Trips was born from a love of dogs and nature. From a young age, John spent much of his time exploring the woods and mountains with his dogs. Together, they hiked and swam in upstate New York and Northern New Jersey.

Through the years, John realized the benefits that his upbringing had on both himself and his dogs - he came to understand that not all dogs have the luxury of the woods in their backyard. After earning his degree at Marist College, years of working at his father's veterinary practice in northern New Jersey, and at veterinary practices in New York City, John founded Doggie Day Trips. The company was born from John's personal belief that every dog deserves the chance to hike and run through the woods. His veterinary experience and his upbringing continue to serve him daily.

Ten years after founding Doggie Day Trips the company expanded to include boarding upstate.

How to Enroll

Please email Andrea@doggiedaytrips.com.

Requirements

In order to hike, your dog must be at least six months of age. (Note: young dogs should not be over exercised in order to prevent stress or damage to growing bones, joints, and muscles.)

While younger puppies are welcome for country getaways, they must be housebroken and out of the chewing phase.

We require that your dog is up-to-date on all vaccinations.

All dogs must be neutered or spayed.

Your dog should get along well with people and other dogs; please disclose any history of aggression.

Please send your dog on hikes with a well-fitted collar and leash. (Note: with permission from you, after two hikes your dog will be allowed off-leash.)

For country getaways, please send food and feeding instructions.

While not a requirement, we also recommend that you follow your veterinarian’s recommendations regarding heartworm prevention and flea and tick control. Ticks and lyme disease are endemic to New Jersey and New York State. We will be happy to go over the different forms of defense that are available through your veterinarian and help apply the treatment if necessary.

Transportation

We provide roundtrip, door-to-door pick-up and drop-off for hikes and country getaways.

Note: the day's hike will generally, from pick-up to drop-off, last about 6-8 hours.

Country getaway picks-ups and drop-offs take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday only.
